The Malkioni Calendar

The Malkioni calendar divides the year into ten months of four seven-day weeks each, and a final intercalary month of two weeks. Days within the month are identified either by a number (e.g. 'the 7th of Sementis') or by their relationship with important holy days (e.g. 'two days after the feast of St Josselyne'), depending on the region. The first day of the year is the vernal equinox, and the weekly Malkioni religious services are held on the seventh day of each week. Hrestol's Vision took place in year 1 of the Malkioni calendar, which therefore uses the same numbering system as the Theyelan calendar of central Genertela.

Religious Festivals

In addition to the many saint's days throughout the year, certain days are held to be holy by most Malkioni sects and celebrated by all worshippers regardless of their specific patron saint (if any). Some of the most widely recognised such days are:
New Years Day (1st Sementis) - a time of feasting, celebration and gift-giving. Universal.

Pentacles (15th Vernus) - a time of fasting and prayer, in commemoration of God's gift of sorcery. Near universal.

Malkonmas (24th Fervidor) - the holiest day of the year. Universal.

Menena's Day (3rd Messistide) - the day on which all good Malkioni husbands bring their wife a gift. Near universal.

Ascension Day (7th Brumastide) - anniversary of Hrestol's ascension into Solace. Hrestoli Churches only.

Holiday (2 weeks) - a solemn time with fasting during the hours of daylight, commemorating Malkion's hardships. Universal.

Day of Truth (1st Holiday) - anniversary of Hrestol's vision. Hrestoli Churches only.

Scriptmas (7th Holiday) - commemoration of the Abiding Book. Hrestoli, Rokari and some smaller churches.

Founder's Day (varies) - celebration of the founding of the specific sect (e.g. Siglat's Day, Rokar's Day).
